Shutter Count App for Android
Check the shutter count of any DSLR or mirrorless camera in seconds. Pick one original photo and the app reads the hidden data your camera writes into every shot. Made by the team behind ShutterCounters.com. Free, with no account.
How to check shutter count on your phone
- 1
Take a photo
Shoot one frame with the camera you want to check. Any subject works.
- 2
Copy it to your phone
Move the original JPEG or RAW file over by card reader, cable or the camera's Wi-Fi app. Don't send it through a messenger, which strips the data.
- 3
Select photo and analyze
Open the app, tap Select photo and get the shutter count, detected model and a usage verdict.

Frequently asked questions
Is the shutter count app free?+
Yes. The app is free to download and use, with no account or signup.
Which cameras does the app support?+
Canon (JPEG, CR2, CR3), Nikon (JPEG, NEF), Sony (JPEG, ARW), Fujifilm (JPEG, RAF) and Panasonic Lumix (JPEG, RW2). DNG files are also accepted. Some models, such as the Canon EOS R, 5D Mark IV and 6D Mark II, don't record shutter count in their photos, and the app tells you when that's the case.
Are my photos uploaded?+
Nikon photos are read directly on your phone and are never uploaded. Photos from other brands are sent to our server so their maker notes can be decoded, and are not stored.
Is a high shutter count bad?+
Not on its own. Shutter ratings are averages: roughly 50,000 actuations for entry-level bodies, 150,000 for enthusiast bodies and 400,000 or more for professional bodies.
What's the difference between the app and the website?+
Both read the same data. The app is handier when you're checking a camera in person and keeps a history of the bodies you've checked. The website works on any device, including iPhone and desktop, with nothing to install.
Is there an iPhone version?+
Not yet. On iPhone, use the free web checker on shuttercounters.com, which works in Safari.
