Growing dataset

Shutter count database.

Every time someone successfully checks their shutter count with our tool, we log the anonymized result — just the camera make, model, and count, nothing identifying. This page shows what that real data tells us, model by model. No estimates, no manufacturer marketing numbers — only what real cameras have actually reported.

Verified shutter count ranges by model

This database is brand new and still growing.

We only started logging successful results recently, and we only publish a model once we have at least 5 real, independent reports for it — so the numbers mean something. Check back soon, or use the tool below to be one of the first data points for your camera.

Known model support status

Not every camera writes shutter count to its files, and our tool relies on an open-source library (ExifTool) that has to be reverse-engineered per camera model. Here's what we've directly verified so far — we'd rather tell you a model isn't supported than have you wonder why the tool "failed."

Canon EOS RNot supported

No ShutterCount maker-note table exists for this model in ExifTool (the library this tool relies on). Verified directly by inspecting ExifTool's Canon.pm source and testing real sample files.

Canon EOS 5D Mark IVNot supported

No ShutterCount maker-note table exists for this model in ExifTool. Verified directly against a real sample file with the latest available ExifTool version — no shutter count field is present.

Canon EOS 6D Mark IINot supported

No ShutterCount maker-note table exists for this model in ExifTool.

Canon EOS 5DNot supported

This camera's firmware (2005) predates Canon writing shutter count to EXIF at all. No software can recover data the camera never recorded.

Canon EOS 6DInvestigating

ExifTool does have shutter-count support for this model, but it is still appearing in our failure logs on original camera files. Likely an outdated ExifTool version on our server — we are actively working on this.

Canon EOS 80DInvestigating

ExifTool has shutter-count support for this model; failures are likely due to a stale ExifTool version on our server. Fix in progress.

Canon EOS R6m2Investigating

Support for this model was added to ExifTool via a 2023 community fix; our server may be running an older version. Fix in progress.

Panasonic DC-G9M2Investigating

ExifTool can read this model's maker notes, but the shutter count field itself was missing from a sample file we tested — may be caused by the image being re-processed by other software before upload, which can strip this data.

Have a camera model that isn't listed here and doesn't work? Try the checker — if it fails, you can report the model directly and we'll investigate.
